Tomato Sauce with Onion and Butter

Ingredients for the recipe:
2 tablespoons butter
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
1 teaspoon sugar
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh basil leaves (optional), torn or chopped
Directions:
1. In a medium-sized saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
2. Add the chopped onion to the saucepan and sauté until it becomes translucent and slightly golden, about 5-7 minutes.
3. Add the minced garlic to the pan and sauté for another minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir well to combine with the onions and garlic.

6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
7. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

9. Once the sauce has thickened and the flavors have melded together, remove it from the heat.
